How licensing works
Our promise
FontKurd is the verified library of Kurdish fonts. Every font here has a licence we can point to.
If a font's licence or provenance is unknown or unclear, we do not publish it. No exceptions. This is the rule that separates us from every archive that hosts first and asks later.
Fonts with murky origins may still enter our pipeline for analysis — that helps us catch clones — but they stay hidden until their rights are clear.
What the badges mean
Every published font carries one licence badge. At a glance, it tells you how you may use the font.
Verified open — the font ships under a recognised open licence, such as the SIL Open Font License. We confirmed that licence against its original source. You can download, use, and share it freely, within the licence's terms.
Permission on file — the author or rights holder gave us written permission to host and share the font. We keep that permission on record.
External / link-only — the font is listed here for discovery only. Its author licenses it elsewhere; we show a preview but do not host the file. The download button sends you to the author.
What you may do with a font
Each font is governed by its own licence — not by a single blanket rule from us. Read it before you use the font in a product, a logo, or a publication.
When you download a font, its full licence text is included in the file. The original files are never modified; you get exactly what the author released.
Free to download does not always mean free for every use. Some licences limit commercial use, embedding, or redistribution. The licence in the download is the authority.
Open Font License: reserved names
Most of our open fonts use the SIL Open Font License. It lets you use, study, modify, and redistribute the font freely.
One rule matters most: if a font has a Reserved Font Name, you may not reuse that name on a modified version. Change the font, and you must give your version a new name.
The previews you see on FontKurd are technical conversions for the web. The download always gives you the author's original, unmodified files.
Report a licensing concern
If you believe a font here is published without the right permission, tell us. We take provenance seriously and act quickly.
Use the 'Report a font' link on any font page, or contact us directly. While we review a report, we can hide the font from the catalogue.
Getting this right protects designers and the people who use their work. Thank you for helping us keep the library clean.
